Robert Townsend is a master printmaker in Georgetown, Massachusetts. He attended the New England School of Art and graduated in 1969. His interest in the intaglio process began with master printers at Impressions Workshop in 1968. In 1978, Robert established R. E. Townsend Studio in Georgetown, MA. He has worked as a master printer at Graphicstudio, Tampa, Florida; Carpenter Center, Harvard University; Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, MA; Amherst College, Amherst, MA; and The Brooks School, North Andover, MA.
Over the past forty-five years, the RE Townsend studio has worked with Arion Press, Jim Dine, Michael Mazur, Robert Motherwell, Richard Diebenkorn, Alex Katz, Robert Mapplethorpe, Joseph Goldyne, Bruce Conner, Peter Milton, Joan Snyder, Aaron Fink, Andrew Stevovich, John Walker and Joel Janowitz and others, with exhibits at The Robert Lehman Art Center, North Andover, MA, Whistler House Museum, Lowell, MA, and the Winfisky Gallery at Salem State, MA.
Presently, Robert works with Don Govertt and others, and the Don Gorvett Gallery has initiated several exhibits featuring the RE Townsend collection.
