A Brief History of the Don Gorvett Gallery
Don Gorvett was born in Boston, MA, and spent his youth in Cambridge and Somerville, MA. He attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, with a Ford Junior Fellowship Grant, graduating in 1972. Don has exhibited work in the United States, United Kingdom, and South East Asia.
2006, Don Gorvett opened his first gallery and printmaking studio on Ceres Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In 2011, the gallery moved to its present location on the Market Street side of Merchant's Row, overlooking Ceres Street and the Piscataqua River. Don also initiated galleries in Ogunquit, ME, and Gloucester, MA.
2019, Don moved his residence and studio to the historic Beacon Marine Basin in Gloucester, MA. The Don Gorvett Gallery in Portsmouth continues to present Don’s woodcuts, drawings, and etchings, as well as the work of other noted New England printmakers. The Gloucester studio’s spacious second-floor loft allows Don to continue exploring the color woodcut, exhibits his and other artists’ work, and offers workshops.
Both locations welcome visitors year-round and are unique destinations in two historic New England port cities.
